Four sages — Alaric, Beatrix, Caius, and Dione — guard four ancient tablets numbered 1 to 4 (each sage holds exactly one tablet). Each tablet has a unique riddle written on it. You know these facts about which sage holds which tablet: Alaric’s tablet number is one less than Beatrix’s tablet number. Caius’s tablet number is not the highest number. Dione’s tablet number is twice that of Caius’s. The sum of Alaric’s and Dione’s tablet numbers is 5. Determine the tablet number each sage holds. The sages’ tablets form a combination to an enchanted lock. The combination is a sequence of four symbols chosen from these: ★, ☾, ☀, ✦. The order of the combination is given by the sages’ tablet numbers in ascending order (i.e., start with the sage holding tablet 1, then 2, etc.). Each sage gives a cryptic clue to their symbol: The symbol of the sage holding tablet 1 is not a star (★) or the sun (☀). The moon (☾) appears before the star (★) in the sequence. The sun (☀) is exactly one position away from the symbol ✦. The symbol for the sage holding tablet 4 is the moon (☾). No symbol is repeated. Using the tablet assignments from Part 1, determine the four-symbol combination The sages must now cross a dangerous river. The river crossing involves four mystical creatures: a Phoenix, a Basilisk, a Gryphon, and a Serpent. Each creature must be transported across the river along with the sages, but there are complex constraints. The sages (Alaric, Beatrix, Caius, Dione) and the four creatures (Phoenix, Basilisk, Gryphon, Serpent) all start on the left bank. The boat can carry only two passengers at a time. Passengers can be any combination of sages or creatures. The goal: get everyone safely to the right bank. Dangerous Pairings: The Phoenix cannot be left alone with the Serpent on either bank without a sage present. The Basilisk cannot be left with the Gryphon on either bank without Alaric present. Caius cannot be on a bank with the Serpent unless Dione is also present on that bank. Use the tablet numbers and symbol sequence found before to determine an order of crossing constraint: The sages must cross the river in ascending order of their tablet numbers. Each sage’s crossing must be accompanied by their symbol's corresponding creature, which is assigned as follows: ★ → Phoenix ☾ → Basilisk ☀ → Gryphon ✦ → Serpent That is, when a sage crosses, their corresponding creature must be on the boat with them. Boat Rules: The boat cannot cross the river empty. Creatures can cross alone only if their sage has already crossed. The Serpent refuses to ride in the boat with the Gryphon unless Alaric is on board. Additional Mystical Constraint: The sequence of crossings must form a palindrome in terms of passenger pairs (the order of pairs who cross from left to right and right to left must mirror). What is the sequence?
